One of my dear friends gave me a book called, “One ThousandsGifts: A Dare to Live Fully Right Where You Are” by Ann Voskamp. I knew she had been reading it because she had discussed what she was learning from the book with me multiple times. I was excited to receive the book, but somewhat fearful of it too. Why fearful? Well, I knew it was going to challenge me and make me grow. Growing often hurts and I was comfortable, even happy-sometimes, living my current life.
So, what did I do with the book? I set it on my “To Read” bookshelf. It happens to be the bookshelf I walk by when I do laundry, when I watch my kids play, that I stare at when I’m exercising, that sits there through a weekly Bible Study. I have a lot of books on that shelf but none of them caught my eye every time like “One Thousand Gifts” did. After multiple months of the book calling my name, nagging at me, staring at me, I picked it up and started to read it.
The book was what I expected…an awakening to what my life as a Christian should be. It made me realize that in my “comfortable” life, I had forgotten to be filled with joy and to thank God every day for His blessings. Not the cliché blessings that everyone shares at Thanksgiving, but the everyday, what some might call mundane, things that I take for granted.
So, why I am writing this blog? This blog will be a document of my 1000 gifts from God. When I reach a 1000, I’m not sure if I will stop this blog or continue to add to it, but I’m excited (and somewhat scared) to find the everyday blessing from God…to thank God for my blessings.
Hurray friend! Excited to follow along on your journey!
